Abstract

The one-pot, three-component reaction of aryl/heteroaryl aldehydes with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and ethyl 3-oxohexanoate or ethyl 4-chloro-3-oxobutanoate in water has been applied to the efficient and green synthesis of 4-arylidene-3-propyl/chlromethylisoxazol-5(4H)-ones. These three-component cyclocondensation have been performed in the presence of potassium carbonate as the catalyst at room temperature. Heterocyclic compounds have been obtained in high yields and relatively shorter reaction times under mild reaction conditions. This multicomponent heterocyclization as the synthetic strategy capable to compete with the some synthetic methods of these heterocycles in terms of chemical yields, reaction times, green, and mild reaction conditions. This method having promising features, including easy reaction, simple isolation of products, benign, cost-effective, no use of heating and special devices such as ultrasound and microwave apparatus. The structures of the synthesized heterocyclic compounds have been characterized using analyzing spectral data of 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR and 13C NMR) and elemental analysis.
