Targeted drug delivery plays an essential role in the treatment of some diseases such as types of cancer. In targeted drug delivery, the drug should be released by the carrier near the cells. The carrier must take into account the unique physiological state of the target cells, such as cancer cells. Different carriers are designed using tumor parameters such as pH, enzyme level, concentration of redox species and reactive oxygen species. In this research, iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by solvothermal method and then coated with biodegradable chitosan polymer. Then, chitosan was cross-linked by pentasodium tripolyphosphate. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The synthesized nanoparticles were used as carriers of the anticancer drug doxorubicin. The results showed that maximum drug loading occurs in alkaline environment (pH=9) and drug release in acidic environment is more than physiological pH (pH=7.4). The drug loading percentage was 24.36%. Also, the amount of drug loading was calculated as 91.21 mg/g of nanocarrier.
