In this research, polyamide compounds and their magnetic composites were synthesized using aliphatic and aromatic amines and copper ferrite and with the aim of investigating their performance, they were used to remove mercaptobenzene from fuel. The response surface method based on Box-Behnken model was used to evaluate the effect of independent variables on sulfur removal percentage. Based on the tests, the best results related to the combined adsorbent were obtained under the conditions of initial concentration of 900 mg/L, adsorbent amount of 0.42 g/L, ferrite percentage of 7% and contact time of 150 minutes with an efficiency of 95%. The results of the kinetic and isotherm studies show that the absorption of sulfur compounds follows the pseudo-second order model and the Langmuir model, respectively. Maximum adsorption capacity of aromatic, aliphatic and combined adsorbents were 2000, 2500 and 5000 mg/g, respectively. Based on the results of the thermodynamic study, the absorption process is spontaneous and endothermic and is associated with an increase in disorder. In addition, after 6 cycles of adsorption and desorption, the removal percentage by the combined adsorbent was 92.6%. These results show that the prepared adsorbent has good stability and reusability to remove sulfur compounds.
